As a recent graduate from the University of Portsmouth, I have experienced first-hand how scary it can be moving to a new city and surroundings to study. Finding a homely environment that is comfortable for both everyday living and studying can be tricky and trusting an agency to find the right accommodation for you is incredibly important.
Student Living: A personal account
From personal experience, I dealt with a number of agencies that didn’t really take students’ needs into consideration. I have been working at NEXA estate agency for three months now as the Marketing and Social Media Coordinator and have been blown away with the higher standard of service offered to students, like myself, to ensure that student living is a pleasurable experience rather than a necessity. Myself and the team take a huge amount of pride in ensuring that students are taken care of, treated with respect and the same quality service that we offer to all our clients whether they be property owners, property buyers, landlords or tenants.
Although my primary job focus is marketing our brand, I wanted this blog to express my personal and honest inside perspective on what we do and how unique we are as an estate agency, reflecting and comparing us to my previous experiences with other agencies when I first moved to Portsmouth as a student, before NEXA came to the market.
On first impressions, all agencies will of course advertise themselves as ‘the best’. However, I can confirm as someone who has had terrible experience with local agencies as a student, that our team at NEXA really do go above and beyond with the service we provide.
What to Expect
As a student starting or currently studying at the University, we understand that you relocating, studying and settling in is stressful enough without the hassle of finding a roof over your head. You want to feel looked after in the accommodation you are living in, especially if you are moving far away from home or are an international student. Here at NEXA, you have one client manager who will devote themselves to finding the right property for you. We are always contactable, which is incredibly convenient in case you have any enquiries or need to get hold of us urgently outside of normal working hours.
Any issues that arise in a property managed by us are sorted as soon as possible. I have had very bad experiences with agencies that ignore clients or take an incredibly long to reply to urgent problems. As a student, this is the last thing you need on top of stressful studies and exams.
“Thinking back, a student property I was living in had a sudden leak from the roof during the winter. Heavy rain was causing a significant amount of damage. In this situation it was important to act quickly enough to protect both the landlord’s property and my own quality of living, however this took several weeks to get resolved.”
